Walk thru

Today we had our framing walk through. Which was interesting, and a little boring, but mostly interesting. Having Darryl to build a house with is quite an advantage becuase it's like a walk through everytime we go through. He is quite knowledge about all the colored wires and why somethings have extra framing. We did meet Scott who is our contact as the house is built and he was quite knowledgeable as well. He was quite helpful in giving us information about when things would be done and which trades would delay our moving in. Hopefully things with the kitchen cabinets will be good. They have switched our cabinet company because Classic Kitchens were taking a long time. He also said the siders have been taking a long time, which hopefully doesn't mean lots of spring rain in our house.

Next is the insulation then the dry wall. There will be more pictures then... right now it's just new wires.

Few changes, sorry no pics

Sorry Lori! (I'm a poet and didn't know it!)

Sorry everyone for being such a slacker! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures that are any more recent than what Jenn posted last. You can picture this though, it's the same as those except the electrical is finished and we have a concrete front step (one of those pre-cast ones) and a garage door.

At the moment we're in a waiting state. We're waiting to be booked for our framing/electrical walk-through but we can't have that until one more contractor has been there. That contractor is the company that will do the network, phone, cable, and speaker wiring. It's causing us to be pushed even further behind schedule. In this case, no news is bad news!

In my recent walk-throughs I've noticed a couple minor things that need attention. Minor in that, before drywall goes up these things can be easily changed. What's wrong you ask? The electrician missed a pot light over the island (directly over the sink) and centered the 3 outlets for the hanging lights over the center of the island rather than more towards the extended counter. The central-vac rough-in isn't complete in the basement either, needs to be connected all together yet. Oh well, these are the things that the framing walk-through is supposed to cover anyway.

In the meantime, the pause in progress is allowing Jenn and I to start our plan for the spring to prepare our current place to be sold. Lots to do on that front. We're patching little dents and knicks in the walls in preparation for painting. We've scheduled Home Depot to come in and replace the playroom carpet as it was peed on by Emma a long time ago. Starting to go through shelves and what-not to figure out what's to be moved, sold, recycled, and garbaged.

Someone's gotta do it

No worries Jenn, someone's gotta keep this blog going and I'm thankful that you are, since I've been a slacker on the blogging front as of late. I do think I have a bit of a good reason to be slacking off, which is, I've picked up some extra programming work from a friend of mine in south western Ontario and I've been trying to get the kitchen table done. I know, excuses, excuses! But I think their pretty good excuses all the same. :)

A few more notes about the house.
Some more of the things that are done are: The shingles are done, the central-vac rough-in is done, most of the plumbing is done (they just have to tie everything into the water and sewer pipes in the basement, the ducts and cold air returns are installed, and most of the furnace.

Next up should be electrical, data/phone/cable/speaker wiring, insulation, vapor barrier, then drywall. And on the exterior, siding, stone and raised deck.

But I Don't Wanna Be An Adult

Here are more pictures. One of the fireplace in the corner of the living room. We would like the home to have a rustic look so we are putting stone all the way to the ceiling.

Here is a picture of the back of the house. Yeah for the walkout, it is one of the things I am looking forward to in the new house.

Here a picture of the skylight in the stairwell. The stairwell did have any natural light in it so we added a skylight and put railing up to make the stairwell not too dark.

I have started freaking out about the house a little bit. I think it's crazy that we are moving into a new house. Houses are so expensive in Calgary. Plus it is going to be so much work. Darryl and I had a funny conversation the other day. Sometimes it amazes me that I am moving into another house and that house is not my parents. Not that I ever plan on moving back into their house. It's just strange that I am an adult and don't depend on them for a roof over my head. Even though we've lived in this house for more the 5 years there are times I walk up the stairs and amazed that this house is ours. Darryl on the other hand never feels this way. It is normal to him to grow up. Just not normal to me. I can't believe we will have to go to lawyers and pay bills and find a mover. Even though we did all of that when we moved into this house it seems to adult to be doing it again.

Enough of my babbling. I'm going to put some pod casts on my ipod for my road trip tomorrow.

Sorry Darryl I turned your technical house, woodworking blog into a Jenn's thinking blog.
